What Makes Alta Langa Unique
Alta Langa DOCG follows strict production rules: only Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes, hand-harvested and vinified using the traditional method (with bottle fermentation), and aged on the lees for a minimum of 30 months. It’s this prolonged contact with the lees that gives these wines their complexity, structure, and finesse.
Unlike other Italian sparkling wines, Alta Langa comes exclusively from higher elevations — over 250 meters above sea level. The sharp temperature variations and calcareous soils give these wines freshness, minerality, and great verticality. The result? Fine bubbles, aromas of bread crust, white flowers, and dried fruits, and a sip that is always vibrant and refined.
A Rising Appellation
Though relatively young — the DOCG was granted in 2011 — Alta Langa has quickly become beloved by wine lovers and sommeliers alike. The major Piedmontese producers believed in its potential from the start, but it’s often the small artisan wineries that surprise the most with their identity and quality.
