Over the past few months, we attended several events in Milan and Bologna focused on non-alcoholic wines, curious to explore what many consider a promising alternative. However, we must be honest: our tastings left us unconvinced.
Most of the products we tried – mostly from Germany and France, with a few Italian entries – failed to deliver the complexity and balance expected from a wine experience, even in alcohol-free form.
Another critical issue is pricing: dealcoholization is a technical and expensive process, and too often the final product doesn’t justify its retail price, which often rivals (or exceeds) that of a good traditional wine. For a product that lacks alcohol – and often soul – customers struggle to accept such a compromise.
That’s why we decided to look elsewhere:
in Alto Adige, among apple orchards cared for with the same dedication as a fine vineyard, we discovered the blend Kohl Lines. This is not your average apple juice, but a refined collection of single-variety juices and blended designed for food pairing. Each bottle expresses a distinct aromatic profile, with notes ranging from floral to citrusy, sweetly spiced to herbaceous, depending on the apple used.
Perfect as a sophisticated aperitif or paired with light dishes, vegetarian cuisine, fresh cheeses, or white meats, these juices surprise with their elegance, clarity, and depth of flavor.
And the price? Under €6 per bottle.
A concrete, accessible, and surprisingly gastronomic choice – not an imitation of wine, but a genuine, natural experience without compromise.
